does anyone know what happens at a business awards dinner?

Going to a business awards dinner tonight got all clothes sorted but dont know what happens at these events - any tips will be greatfully recieved!

1. they give awards and you usually get fed something. kinda boring usually unless you are being rewarded but a chance to schmooze
2. They generally consist of a cocktail hour, followed by dinner [usually a mediocre and rubbery chicken entree], and then some awards and other presentations. Once the awards are over, you'll see a steady stream of people leave. You're free to join them, although it's nice to swing by any colleagues or bosses you have that might have received an award.
3. You get fed, you have to make chit chat with your co-workers. It is extremly boring and the only ones who like it are the office staff that gives out and usually recieves most of the awards.
4. There is the dinner of course and the award ceremony.
